Hosts Council Distict 1 Candidate
Forum
Voting Is Priceless (VIP) hosted
a Council District 1 candidate
forum on August 23, 2007 at the
Bordeaux YMCA featuring run-off
contenders Ken Jakes and Lonnell
Matthews, Jr.
The forum was moderated by
current District 1 Councilperson
Brenda Gilmore.
VIP was founded by Steve Turner,
who served as timer for the
question and answer program, to
encourage young persons to
participate in the voting
process.
Both candidates agreed that
District 1 needs a strong voice
in the Metro Council and pledged
to give fair representation to
each of the diverse communities
it encompasses. However, clear
differences were evident in the
candidates' positions on several
issues including Metro
government's interaction with
businesses and regional
governmental entities.
