Letter from the Candidate

Ken Jakes Announces Candidacy
for District 1 Metro Council Representative

To the residents of the 1st District:

My name is Ken Jakes and I reside at 5920 Clarksville Highway, Joelton, Tennessee. I have now decided after heavy consideration to run for council. I am officially on the ballot for election.

Over the past year, there were several zoning issues that arose in the Joelton community. As a result a community committee was formed called the Joelton Zoning and Planning Development Committee. I am very active in this group. I helped obtain information from government offices, including the Planning Department, Planning Commission, Zoning Department, Metro Legal Department, Metro Clerks Office, Metro Council Office and various others.

I am amazed at what the other members along with myself accomplished. However, it seemed to take a snow ball effect. Our investigation, though focused on zoning issues, discovered how our Metro government on a regular basis violated the Metro Code of Law and the Metro Charter. Not only have they broken the Metro Code of Law, they have broken state and federal laws.

Every candidate has a motive for running for office. I am no different from others. I also have a motive. I would like to be a voice within the Metro Council; I would like it to not only be my voice, but the voice of the 1st District. This next term of office for elected officials will hold decisions for Nashville and the various districts concerning the future of Nashville and surrounding areas. If we do not maintain our voice in the council, who knows what devious decisions our Metro government holds in store.

It seems at the present time that our Planning Department, Planning Commissions and Metro Council are allowing fat cat corporations to maneuver the system with disregard to the community. I would ask that you place your trust in me and elect me to be your representative for the 1st District.

Can I make these changes on my own? No. Therefore, I need your help and support to ensure that the 1st District will make a difference. I feel that it is time for the Metropolitan government to place development, zoning and planning issues back into the hands of the community. I would welcome the opportunity to attend any community or district meetings.

If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to contact me by phone at 615-227-1993 (work), 615-876-6220 (home), 615-347-3379 (cell) or by e-mail at
deemj61@comcast.net

Sincerely,

Kenneth L. Jakes

P.S. Please don’t forget that election day is Thursday, August 2, 2007. This could be a turning point for the 1st District.
