Children's
Needs Should Be a Priority
in Metro Spending
To The Editor:
We are not against anything being
done that will beautify or help
our fine city; but, we do have a
problem when money is spent on
items to such a degree as the
monstrosity on the river when so
many of our school children
cannot buy their uniforms or
supplies for school to enable
them to get a better education.
Our church, as well as other
churches in the community and
throughout Davidson County are
asking membership to help these
children have supplies. Just a
few minutes ago I received this
email from a young mother who is
very much involved in the PTA at
Joelton Elementary School:
"I was at the school this
morning talking in the office and
they asked if I knew anyone that
might want to donate some of the
standard school attire for the
kids that the parents can't
afford it. They don't have to be
new clothes, just in good shape.
The standard school attire
consist of the following: navy,
black or any shade of khaki
pants, shorts, skirts or jumpers.
Tops must have a collar and solid
color red, light blue, navy blue,
yellow, white, or hunter green.
They also need belts. The school
usually tries to keep a closet of
clothes for these kids and the
closet was pretty much wiped
clean yesterday. Any sizes will
do, I know that two of the boys
is a size 14-16. If you or anyone
you know has something they would
like to donate feel free to
contact me and I can pick them
up, you can bring them to me or
drop them off at the school. All
are very much appreciated.
"Thank you all for your
time. Please pass this along to
anyone you think that might want
to help."
At our church there are five
middle school and elementary
teachers. We have five tubs
positioned in the foyer and as I
am sure in all churches,
membership is responding.
We ask Mr. Dean to consider a
change in priorities for Metro
Nashville and Davidson County.
(This
letter was also sent to Karl
Dean's office and will be sent to
Bob Clement.)
Thank you.
